How to change a song's tempo for dance class (without the chipmunk effect)
Speed a track up or slow it down to match your class's level while keeping it in key. GrooveCut changes tempo with pitch-lock, so faster doesn't mean squeaky and slower doesn't mean muddy.
How to do it in GrooveCut
- 1
Open GrooveCut and load the track
Go to groovecut.pbt.dance and upload the song you want to adjust.
- 2
Move the tempo control up or down
Drag the slider to the percentage you need — from 50% all the way to 150% of the original.
- 3
Pitch stays locked
The key doesn't shift, so the music still sounds natural and in tune at any speed.
- 4
Beat-snap your cuts
If you're trimming sections, use BPM-snap so every edit lands exactly on the count.
- 5
Save or export the class version
Export the tempo-adjusted file as an MP3, or save the project to come back to it.
Why it matters for dance
Pace music to the class — slower for learning, full speed for performance runs — without re-recording or hunting for a different track.
